World Figure Skating Championships 2011 Moscow
Patrick Chan of Canada newly armed with quads would shatter all records at this championships. He did two quad triples and another quad. The qaulity of his quadruple toe loops was really impressive. Two skaters Michal Brezina and Javier Fernandez did both a quad toe loop and a quad salchow. All the medalists did quads. Nearly everyone in the top 10 tried one. It was remarkbale. The combination of rule changres and trying to catch Patrick Chan was largely responsible. The rule changes made them less punitive and Chan doing them with his sky high PCS scores and excellent spins and step sequences made him the leader all season. Would this have happened under the old rules? Impossible to say. Here is the rundown of all the quads done.

Four Continents Quad and quad attempts
Last time Daisuke Takahashi won 4CC he did so with the highest Free skate score ever and which still stands. Part of that was doing two clean quad toe loops - one in combination. This time he won but with a quad that he fell on and which was downgraded. He started out the season good on quads but I guess near the end of the season his injuries are preventing clean quad attempts. Silver medalist Yazuru Hanyu did a clean quad and bronze medalist Jeremy Abbott fell on his attempt.
Short Program quads
8th Place (in SP) Kevin Reynolds did a 4S+3T which got negative GOE. BV for that was 14.60 and he got 14.03. His quad toe loop was called underrotated so he got 4.20 points out of a base value of 7.20 for a underrotated quad toe loop.
Long program quads and quad attempts- so many attempts!
1st place (FS) - Daisuke Takahashi 4T<< fall 4.10 - 2.10 = 2.00
2nd place - Takahiko Kozuka 4T fall 10.30 - 3.00 = 7.30
3rd place - Yuzuru Hanyu 4T 10.30 + 2.00 = 12.30
4th place - Jeremy Abbott 4T< fall 7.20 - 3.00 = 4.20
6th place - Jinlin Guan 4T fall 10.30 - 3.00 = 7.30
11th place - Kevin Reynolds 4S< fall 7.40 - 3.00 = 4.40

Euro Mens winner quadless!!!
Last year all medalists did quads and tried quad combos. This year the winner didn't attempt a single non combo quad. This in the year of the quad return. Obviously Joubert made a mistake in the short program falling on a triple Lutz and Verner falling on a triple axel. But the long is supposed to matter more and they did quads so this whole event has a pretty shocking ending!
2010-Plushenko did 2 quads
2009-Joubert did quads
2008-Verner did a quad
2007-Joubert did a quad
2006-Plushenko did quads
2005-Plushenko did quads
This wasn't a bad competition for quads. Lots of great quads were done. Joubert, Verner, Gachinski, Menshov, Van Der Perren. So many great quads!!
No quads in prelims
